On 07/09/2021, the inaugural meeting of the SIG under the working name of “SIG – Technology for the Environment” took place. The goal of SIG -Technology for the Environment is to build awareness and promote the idea of using new, green technologies to reduce the digital carbon footprint, representing 2% to 4% of the global carbon footprint by ITC companies and data centers.
The group leader is Kamil Pawlik from IT for Carbon Footprint Foundation.

The development of technology in the 21st century has accelerated incomparably compared to previous years. Such a turn of events brings many benefits and benefits that modern solutions bring. Looking from the other side, however, there are many dangers. Changes in the ecosystem are taking place before our eyes. Can modern technologies have a beneficial effect on our planet and the environment in which we live?
As part of the created SIG Technology for the Environment, the group began work related to the task:
“Digital Carbon Footprint awareness study in startups from the ICT sector”
Project assumptions:
The aim of the project is to conduct an awareness study in the field of digital carbon footprint in the form of in-depth interviews with representatives of Krakow companies (startups) from the ICT sector. The result of the research and publication of the results is to increase awareness of the reduction of the digital carbon footprint and the opportunities it offers in terms of foreign expansion and the possibility of obtaining financing from public funds, as well as VC funds focused on Cleantech.
Project scope:
As part of the project, a pilot study will be conducted in the form of in-depth interviews with representatives of 10 Krakow startups from the IT sector. On this basis, the results will be published in the form of an article / .pdf file.

- Paying attention to the aspect of reducing the digital carbon footprint by using / creating technological solutions conducive to such an action
