Podkarpacie region is located in the south-eastern part of Poland and it covers approximately 18,000 sq. km which constitutes 5.7 % of total area of Poland. The area is inhabited by 2,103,500 people (5.5 % of the country population).

The southern and eastern border of the Region is also a border of Poland on the section of 370 km. The Podkarpackie borders with the Ukraine and Slovak Republic. Close proximity to eastern markets creates favourable conditions for economic co-operation and widely understood cross-border co-operation.

Podkarpackie Region is divided into 160 communities, 21 counties and 4 cities that are treated as separate counties (Rzeszów, Krosno, Tarnobrzeg, Przemyśl).

Rzeszów is the seat of local government of the region. The city is economic, academic and cultural centre of the region. The city of Rzeszów with 180,000 inhabitants is the capital of the region.

At the end of May 2012 there were 151,100 business entities registered in the region i.e. ~4% of all business entities registered in Poland. Number of commercial companies establishing by foreign entrepreneurs increases constantly – and now there are 1065 foreign capital companies in Podkarpackie Region.
